I’m a business journalist focused on explaining wealth — how it is made, lost, destroyed, turned over to the next generation. I’m interested in how the wealthy enhance or deprive lives, and crush rivals’ ambitions. I like to understand and then share my insights on the personalities and the system and rules that allow the wealthy to thrive, corrupt, or behave.
I’m based in Manila, the thriving capital of the Philippines, one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
I have almost two decades of print, broadcast and online journalism, with extensive experience in daily reporting, editing and managing multimedia reporting teams. I have worked at investigative media group Newsbreak, media giant ABS-CBN Corporation, online news site Rappler, and the Philippine edition of Forbes magazine.
Before these frenzied newsroom lives, I was a banker, packaging corporate loans and investments. I also dipped into strategic communication and business risk consulting. I regularly practice yoga and pilates.
I am currently working on a pioneering multimedia biography project. The Gokongwei family of the Philippines commissioned me to tell the story of their late patriarch, John Gokongwei Jr, in three platforms: a biography book, a podcast series, and a documentary film.
I have another book project on capitalism, taking off from the wealth saga and the growing influence of family conglomerates.
