The full story of why I yoga

I’m taking the spotlight off my usual subjects — the business elite — and sending some attention toward me.

This is not for vanity, or because I crave for attention and applause (cringing!). At the core, storytellers, like myself, prefer to highlight the stories that we tell. We stay behind the cameras and our names are in small prints.

Over the decades of doing journalism, however, I do understand the need to tell our own backstories.

Now I’m sharing mine.

When I’m not writing or managing newsrooms, I am on a yoga mat. I’m sharing here my my parallel journeys as a journalist and as someone who processed my human frailties…while I practice yoga.

Listen to my story:

I hope that inspires you as well to pursue your own self-care journey.

See you on the mat!

Sharing what I learned about #downwardfacingdog pose. In a Manila workshop by @leslielovesyoga, we were made to visualize the various body parts that meet at the end-torso and hip area. My most important takeaway was how this classic #downdog pose is primarily a pelvic floor tilt. Leslie asked us to imagine our pelvic floor as a triangle basin with water in it. Tip it forward and let the water flow out, she said. That did it for me. The more I try to 'pour the water out" of my bum area, the more I want to leverage against the floor by using more of my upper arm muscles when I rotate the biceps out. I also get to "pour more water out" when I fold my knees. That somehow made my body anatomically able to tilt my bum more, incidentally creating a slight backbend. So, no. Downward facing dog is not about creating that perfect inverted triangle pose that's long been the iconic image for this #yogapose. It was the shape I was going for as well many vinyasa and flow yoga classes ago. It's all about the pelvic floor tilt. I hope this helps you in your #downdog poses, too. Kids really just do what adults do, not what adults simply say kids should do. Just got reminded of it when @nadineandrearimando147 , my 10-year-old niece, mirrored me while we were doing handstand drills after yoga class. She did the L-shape pose with her hands on the floor when she saw teacher @jo_endaya demonstrate it in class. But when she was next to me and I was on my forearms during the drill, she went down on her forearms, too. . Actions, indeed, are louder than words. . . . . . . . . . #handstand #handstandpractice #yogapractice #kickuphandstand #strongcore #corestrength #corestrengthening #corestrengthtraining #corestrong #fitafter40 #kidsyoga #upsidedown #inversion #yogainversion #yogabody #yogakids #hipopener #strongarms #strongissexy

Twenty million calories, sugar fiesta, intense sleep debt, and my bloody red time-of-the-month equals bloating like no other. ⠀ ⠀ I need to slow down. Or perhaps turn the aircon 24/7. Or sleep, fart, or just stay still. ⠀ ⠀ But, first: A stretch. A big, yummy, twist, bend and turn. ⠀ ⠀ Aaaaaaaah. Awesomeness. ⠀ ⠀ Let’s go.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #vinyasaflow #yogaflow # twistandturn #catcowpose #yogapractice #outdooryoga #natureyoga #yogabody #spinetwist #warriorpose #yogawarrior #trianglepose #yogaposes #yogafordigestion #savasana #happybabypose #boatpose #rollovers #reversewarrior #myyogapractice #fitafter40 #strongandflexible #benddontbreak #yogaflexibility #inflexibleyogis #yogafit #fitandstrong #strongissexy #namaste
